After shutting down the 2023 Met Gala red carpet in a Chanel mini, Blackpink’s newest member made her debut in Cannes wearing another stunning dress from the house of Coco — though this one leaned more bridal than black tie. The South Korean superstar, whose full name is Jennie Kim, stepped out in a white and black lace midi dress from the Spring 2020 couture collection to attend a special screening of HBO’s new series, The Idol, which marks her American acting debut alongside co-stars The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye as her character’s self-help guru, Troye Sivan as her music manager, and Lily-Rose Depp as her cult leader character.
The film noir-inspired drama follows an aspiring female pop star. She builds a complicated relationship with the club owner who manages her and leads a secretive cult, with the singer/rapper playing the role of Dyanne, one of the show’s backup dancers. While she only appears for about ten minutes in the series’ first episode, Jennie has already captured viewers’ hearts with her exotic dancing and seductive moods.
It was only natural that she’d arrive in Cannes in a wedding-worthy gown, with the white-and-black floral patterned lace dress featuring a deep V-line neckline and puffed sleeves. The dress’s hemline also featured a high-low cut for an extra dramatic effect, while black satin bows adorned her shoulders and hair. A matching headband and gold earrings completed her look. She paired the glam dress with peep-toe heels and rings, though she opted not to wear a necklace this time.
Although she’s only just begun her acting career, Jennie has long been a style icon in her own right. Her love for fashion, makeup, and beauty has earned her numerous accolades and awards from international competitions to even her eponymous beauty line. She’s even a Calvin Klein global ambassador, so it’s no wonder she always looks chic on the red carpet.
Jennie was joined by her Blackpink bandmates Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa at the event — though she did leave the soundcheck, which fans with VIP packages got to see, early to conserve her energy for her film debut. Afterward, she was spotted taking photos with some of the festival’s other stars, including actresses Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Rachel Sennott, Sophie Mudd, and Moses Sumney.
Despite her hectic schedule with Blackpink on the Born Pink world tour, Jennie is having a great time at Cannes and will surely make more headlines when she takes on her new roles in other films and TV shows.
