The best thing we can probably do for your gifted children is to ensure they are in a learning environment where they feel they belong and where they are fully supported to develop their skills and explore their talents. If this isn’t so for your child at the moment, it would be ideal to explore options to get them that support and find an environment where they can thrive.

Talk to Your Teacher about What They are Noticing
Probably the first step you should take as a parent is to converse with your child’s school teacher regarding what they are noticing about your child and their qualities. It is important to note that not many of our teachers have had the chance to learn about gifted kids and their needs, so you may have to share what you’re learning with them.
Inquire about Other Gifted Kids at School
It is also important that you ask your child’s teacher how they cater for gifted children at the school. What does it involve in the regular classroom? Are there additional classes or activities for gifted kids? If you are happy and contented with what the school is offering and it works for your child, that is terrific.
But what if your school lacks a gifted education programme for gifted learners? When this is the case, you could talk with them about starting one up. Schools are required by the Government’s National Administration Guidelines to identify the gifted and talented students and to develop classroom and school-wide programmes to meet their needs.
Remember Clubs are another exciting opportunity for gifted students to extend their passions with like-minded peers which school can support.
